100 YEARS AGO IN THE MORICHES

In 1926, local business and community leaders came together to form what would become the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches.

From its earliest days, the Chamber was about much more than business. Its mission included advancing the commercial, recreational and civic interests of the Moriches area and giving the community a voice on issues affecting its future.

Early newspaper records show a Chamber actively involved in improving life in the Moriches. During its first few years, members discussed everything from roads, street lighting and traffic signals to community facilities, dredging and beautification.

One hundred years later, that spirit of community involvement continues. In 2026, the Chamber proudly celebrates its 100th anniversary—a century of local businesses and residents working together to strengthen the community we call home.

2026 VETERANS PARADE

GRAND MARSHAL

The Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches is proud to announce Lee Sinnickson as this year’s Veterans Parade grand marshal.

Sinnickson  served our nation with exceptional honor during the Vietnam War as an infantryman in the U.S. Army’s First Infantry Division, where his bravery in combat earned him significant military honors. A lifelong area resident who was educated in Center Moriches, Sinnickson  continues to call the Moriches home with his wife, Loretta, to whom he has been married for 55 years. Together, they are the proud parents of Keri and Ryan and grandparents to four grandchildren: Leah, Kara, Amy and Avery.

We are honored to have Sinnickson serve as our grand marshal and invite the community to join us in recognizing Sinnickson and his family at the Veterans Parade on Sunday, Nov. 8. The parade will step off at 2 p.m. from East Moriches School and proceed to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Park, where a ceremony will follow.

If you would like to participate in the parade, please email the Chamber at info@moricheschamber.org or visit moricheschamber.org for additional information.
