Village of Patchogue awarded Tree City Designation, again

Eco Fair: This year’s event will be held at the Patchogue Theatre on April 23.

For the second time, the Village of Patchogue has been awarded the Tree City Designation for 2023 by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

In order to qualify for Tree City, villages must have a tree ordinance, a tree board or committee, an Arbor Day planting and ceremony including a reading of the mayor’s Arbor Day proclamation, and $2 per capita of tree-related expenditures in the calendar year.

Village clerk Lori Devlin attended the recognition event on behalf of the village with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Thursday, March 28 at, SUNY New Paltz.

“It was an honor to represent the village at the Tree City USA recognition and network with representatives of other tree-loving municipalities,” she said. “The NYS DEC shared valuable information about best practices for managing invasive plants and their impact on the urban forest. We look forward to planting more trees in the village in 2024.”

This year’s Arbor Day Ceremony and Tree Planting will take place on the grounds of Patchogue Medford Youth and Community Services on Friday, April 26 at 4 p.m. During the event, DPW will be planting trees.
