Bring your poles and buckets to Gilbert Park for the annual Brightwaters Snapper Tournament! The rain-or-shine tournament will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. and is a long-standing tradition in Brightwaters.
To participate, children, adults, and seniors alike are asked to pay for a $5 ticket at the event, or a $20 ticket for the whole family. Participants will be getting lots of bang for their buck. Each ticket covers the cost of bait and a classic barbecue dinner with burgers and hot dogs.
A fun event for the whole family, each year a crowd of about 200 gather at Gilbert Park, including kids, their parents, and their grandparents.
“We give awards for all different ages, like largest fish, most fish, most exotic fish, and we might add more,” shared Brightwaters trustee William Pitta, chairperson of the tournament. “It is really laid back, nothing too serious with the fishing. It is more so having the kids involved, coming together, and having a good time. It is really fun to see the kids run back and forth from the bulkhead with their fish for us to weigh them.”
Extra poles will be available to purchase for $10. This year, the bait and poles were supplied by Dan Kroger from Bay Shore Fish and Hunt.
Mark your calendars, as there are plenty of fish to be caught, awards to be dispersed, and great memories to be made at the tournament.
