Upcoming fire commissioner elections

Vote from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 8

Local fire districts throughout Islip Town will hold their annual elections on Tuesday, Dec. 8 this year. The candidate in each fire district with the highest votes will be elected fire commissioner. They will remain in that position for a five-year term, commencing Jan. 1, 2021 and ending Dec. 31, 2025.

BAY SHORE

Newcomer Jeremiah Rockfeld will take on incumbent Richard O. Christie for one five-year seat - the only contested race in the Islip Bulletin’s coverage area. Voting will take place at the Bay Shore Fire Department at 195 Fifth Avenue from 3 to 9 p.m.. No resolutions or referendums are expected to appear on the ballot.

EAST ISLIP

Residents in the East Islip Fire District have the opportunity to vote at the East Islip Fire Department located at 30 East Main Street from 3 to 9 p.m. Incumbent Eric Slynn is running unopposed this year. There are no resolutions or referendums.

ISLIP

Longtime fire commissioner Owen McCaffery will run unopposed in this year’s fire commissioner elections. No referendums or resolutions will appear on the ballot. Voting will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Islip Fire Department at 28 Monell Avenue in Islip.

WEST ISLIP

In the West Islip fire district, Joe Bedalla is running unopposed for a five-year term. Like many other local districts this year, no referendums or resolutions will appear on the ballot this year. Voting will take place at the fire station at 309 Union Boulevard in West Islip from 2 to 9 p.m.
