Suffolk County police arrested three men on drugs and weapons charges after they fled police and drove a vehicle through a brick memorial in Islip Terrace Oct. 12.
At approximately 3 p.m., county police attempted to pull over a 2019 Dodge Charger traveling southbound on Lowell Avenue, a press release stated.
The driver pulled to the side of the road, but when officers approached the vehicle on foot, the driver fled at a high rate of speed and crashed into the
Sgt. Craig P. Gariepy North Great River Memorial Park, located in the median of the road, reports said.
When police removed the three men from the vehicle following the crash,
they observed a large quantity of narcotics on the dashboard, reports said.
Officers from the Firearms Suppression Team responded and recovered a
loaded .38-caliber revolver, approximately seven grams of fentanyl, prescription medication, marijuana, a scale, multiple cell phones and cash.
Police later determined the vehicle was stolen and was bearing license plates stolen from another vehicle, reports said.
The driver, Jasheem Pulley, 26, of North Amityville, and his passengers, Dyron Elliott, 32, of Lindenhurst, and Daquan Clinton, 32, of North Amityville, were all transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
According to police at the scene Monday, the group did not sustain major injuries. An officer at the scene added that the memorial was damaged by the accident and when the vehicle was removed from the edge of the platform.
All three received four felony charges and one misdemeanor charge for criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance,
criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen
property, and criminal possession of stolen property.
Pulley was also charged with unlawfully fleeing from police and reckless
driving, a misdemeanor.
Established in 2016, FAST was created by SCPD, Suffolk County Probation, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms
and Explosives to remove illegal guns from Suffolk County streets.
