Bay Shore girls track team qualifies for states

Bay Shore Girls Track team members Haley Naslonski, Sophia Joinnides, Ella Lehman and Maggie McCormick placed second in the 4x800 at a recent meet. This qualified them to compete at states.

Suffolk Champions

The Bay Shore boys and girls track teams had outstanding performances at the Suffolk County Championships. Boys track team member Kwame Kwarteng won in the long jump event. Girls track team member Mia Grassia won in the high jump event.

Bay Shore boys track competes at championship

The Bay Shore boys track team placed sixth in the Large School Championship. The 4x800 team of J. Gogarty, D. Beggins, C. Frohne and P. Bagattine placed third.

Longtime Bay Shore girls track coach honored

Legislator Steven Flotteron and president of Bay Shore Athletic Sponsors Charlie Flood recognized coach Steve Borbet (middle) for his 49 years of dedication and commitment to coaching track. Borbet has been the head girls track and field coach at Bay Shore High School since 1975. He has coached more championship teams than any other coach, in any other sport, in Suffolk County history.

Borbet has won Suffolk County League Coach of the Year numerous times, and won the New York State Coaches Honor Award in 2006.

East Islip senior bowler Kristy Murphy signs with Bryant University

East Islip High School senior bowler Kristy Murphy signed a national letter of intent on April 4 to play for Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., where she plans to major in literary and cultural studies.

The captain of EI’s girls bowling team, Murphy earned All-County, All-League and Scholar-Athlete recognition during her high school career, and was a key member of the 2021 county championship team. In academics, she earned high honor roll and is a member of the school’s Art Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also serves as vice president of the Key Club and is a member of the Class of 2022 Club and East Islip High School Chamber Orchestra.
