Teaching kids about endangered animals

New monthly coloring book subscription highlights elephants

As the school year draws near and homework begins to pile on, why not invest in a way for kids to de-stress while still learning?

Richard Kayatt, founder of nonprofit Children 4 Children, has created a new coloring book series that teaches children about endangered animals.

“Kids just don’t learn about this in school,” Kayatt said of his goal to educate children.

The current 40-page coloring book will be sold in local Islip stores, with $1.50 from each sale of the $5.95 book donated to Islip schools. Twenty-five cents from each book will be donated to an international endangered animal organization.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union in Bay Shore has partnered with Children 4 Children on this initiative. Kayatt said that kids who color the pages of the book will have the opportunity to submit their drawings to be displayed at Bethpage Federal Credit Union for National Elephant Day on Sept. 22.

In addition to the pages for coloring, the book also features information about elephants, their intelligence, and what can be done to help support them. Kayatt plans to turn this endeavor into a monthly subscription series and translate the books into different languages so that more children may enjoy them.
