Seven people arrested at sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue

The Suffolk County Police Department held a sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue from August 19, at 11:15 p.m. to Saturday, August 20, at 2:20 a.m.

Seven motorists were arrested.

One of the motorists was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a felony offense, for having an 11-month-old child in the vehicle.

Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway Patrol Bureau conducted a joint operation Sobriety Checkpoint with New York State Troopers at the intersection of Waverly Avenue and Sunrise Highway North Service Road. The checkpoint was part of an ongoing enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving.

A total of 400 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

New York State Police charged a 28-yeae-old woman, of Bellport, with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) for having an 11-month-old child in the vehicle at the time. She was given an appearance ticket to be arraigned at a future date.

Additionally, they charged a 26-year-old man, of Holbrook, with Driving While Ability Impaired. He was given an appearance ticket to be arraigned at a future date.

Suffolk County Police charged the following people with Driving While Intoxicated:

59-year-old male, Hauppauge

55-year-old male, Copiague

52-year-old female, Sayville

38-year-old male, Holbrook

33-year-old female, Bohemia

The five arrestees will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 20.
