Sayville girls varsity basketball has been having a successful winter 2024-25 season as they are vying to be a postseason contender in Suffolk County League VI.
Their league record is 4-3 and their overall record is 6-5, and they are in fifth place in a competitive and tight division (record and standings last updated Sunday, Jan. 12).
The first three contests of the season were on the road, two of them competing against non-league opponents.
The Golden Flashes fell to Lindenhurst in the opener 49-32 and 54-29 to Westhampton Beach, then earned their first victory of the campaign in dominating fashion by 22 points over a league opponent.
The Golden Flashes jousted the Elwood John Glenn Knights 52-30 to get the W on Friday, Dec. 6, then three days later fell to the Mount Sinai Mustangs in their home opener, 57-42.
The Golden Flashes secured an overwhelming victory over another league opponent, downing the Miller Place Panthers 61-33 on the road on Dec. 11. A back-to-back victory was in order at home over Sachem North on Dec. 13; then they were defeated by Kings Park at home on Dec. 16.
Sayville outlasted their nearest geographical adversary, vanquishing the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms on Snedecor Avenue, then returned to Brook Street and fell to Shoreham-Wading River, 50-27.
Two more commanding wins ensued following the loss to SWR. Sayville trounced the Deer Park Falcons 48-23 at home on Saturday, Dec. 28, then subjugated their League VI rival by 19 points with a 50-31 win over Hampton Bays on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Sayville hosted Islip on Monday and Elwood John Glenn on Wednesday and will travel to the North Shore to face the Mount Sinai Mustangs tomorrow, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m.
On Monday, Sayville basketball will host Miller Place for a 10:30 a.m. contest on Martin Luther King Day, then will trek to Kings Park on Jan. 24 for a Friday night game.
In the final four regular-season games, SHS will be at home against Bayport-Blue Point and away at SWR in late January, and in early February will host Hampton Bays on Senior Day on Monday, Feb. 3, then conclude the regular season at Islip on Friday, Feb. 7.
