Sayville baseball seeks another playoff run

Posted

It’s been a successful season at “The Swamp” on Brook Street for Sayville varsity baseball. The Golden Flashes are in second place in Suffolk League VI with a 10-5 record. After making a trip to the county championship last spring, Sayville baseball is hoping to emulate last year’s playoff run.

Sayville started off the season vs. Hampton Bays in the last week of March; winning the opener on the road 5-1, then Sayville’s home opener 12-1, then returned to Hampton Bays to complete the sweep with a 10-4 win.

The winning accelerated the first week of April after two dominating performances hosting the Islip Buccaneers and winning 7-1, then shutting out Islip 5-0, but then fell to Islip in a 6-5 nailbiter.

With a 5-1 record, Sayville played small ball shutting out the Kings Park Kingsmen 3-0, then accrued two more low-scoring victories, 2-1 and 4-2 vs. KP.

In mid-April, the Golden Flashes won three in dominating fashion vs. Mount Sinai, followed by two home shutouts by scores of 10-0 and 1-0 on Brook Street and a 7-4 road win.

Sayville lost three tough games vs. the Miller Place Panthers: 6-0 and 7-2 on the road and 12-2 at home April 22, 24 and 25.  Sayville has two more games vs. the West Islip Lions and will wrap up the regular season with three games vs. the Harborfields Tornadoes next week.

The first round of the League VI playoffs is on May 14.
