Suffolk County Police today arrested a registered sex offender for possession of child pornography.
During a routine check of Keith Schoelermann, a Level 2 Sex Offender, by Suffolk County Probation officers, an unregistered cellphone was located which contained child pornography. Probation officers and Suffolk County Police Computer Crimes Unit detectives, along with Seventh Precinct Community Support Unit officers, subsequently executed a search warrant at Schoelermann’s home.
Schoelermann, 29, of 62 Grove Road West, Mastic Beach, was charged with Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child and Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child.
He will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 20.
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Computer Crimes Unit at 631-852-6572.
