On Monday, May 2, the Brightwaters board of trustees held their monthly meeting.
The board made a motion to consider the approval of the proposed sub-division “Windsor Estates in the Village of Brightwaters,” which is currently known as Section: 8, block 2, Lot:62 on the northeast corner of Windsor and South Country Road. The motion was approved by the board. Mayor John Valdini said that “right now the owner of the property is looking to put two houses on it.”
He noted that the lots are very large. Village attorney Charles J. Casolaro said that the applicant went to the planning board and that after a proposed applicant for a subdivision gets approval from the planning board, they’re to be approved for final approval to the board of trustees. The applicant will still have to go back to the planning board for site-plan review.
The board held a public discussion regarding boater parking on Corinthian Court and Linwood Court. Valdini noted that boater parking is difficult because the side streets are so narrow. The board is seeking public input about language on the parking signs and from people who live in the affected areas.
Trustee Del Vecchio spoke about the upcoming events over the coming weekends. On Saturday, April 14, the village will host the village-wide garage sale. Anyone who would like to participate is asked to please make sure they get their permit for the event. The following weekend, on May 21, the Sounds of Silence 5-10K run/walk will take place at Walker Beach to benefit pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety. On Saturday, May 28, the village will have their Memorial Day weekend ceremony at 10 a.m. at the top of the canal.
The board approved payment to Solitude Lake Management in the amount of $5,568 for the cutdown of lilies and phragmites at the lakes in the fall of 2021. The board approved payment to Welsbach in the amount of $4,700.04 for reinstalling eight poles, rewired, installed seal tight from pull box to pole and spliced in 10 pull boxes along the canal. The work was performed on Oct. 22, 2021 and Oct. 25, 2021 and will be paid for by the $1.5 million bond. The board approved payment to LI Contracting and Landscaping in the amount of 3,080 for carpentry and masonry labor at the Walker Beach bathrooms. Valdini noted that the payment was for three outside doors that were installed as well as patching of the walls. The board approved payment to LI Contracting and Landscaping in the amount of $2,700 for materials purchased for the Walker Beach handicap bathrooms. The village is to be reimbursed by the Town of Islip Community Development Agency for the Walker Beach handicap bathroom grant. The board approved payment to Commercial Lumber and Building Supply in the amount of $5,770.85 and payment to Marjam Supply Co. in the amount of $620.20 for materials purchased for the Walker Beach handicap bathrooms. The village is to be reimbursed by the Town of Islip Community Development Agency for the project. The board approved a transfer of $29,771 from general to capital for the Walker Beach handicap bathroom capital improvement project. A budget modification to use FEMA funds was approved at the Sept. 13, 2021 board of trustees meeting. The board voted to appoint Shannon Rea as a communications consultant for the Downtown Revitalization Businesses Outreach Project in the amount of $2,500. Rea is working to highlight all of the businesses in Brightwaters on social media with small stories and photos. The board approved various public assembly permits for upcoming fundraisers, walks/runs and swims.
