A Patchogue-Medford High School alumnus is donating to the school a plaque honoring graduates who were All-Americans in various sports.

Bruce Meltzer, a member of the Class of 1969, is donating the plaque, which is named after Bob Figueira, Class of 1968.

“It’s long overdue recognition for some of the outstanding athletes that have come through Pat-Med over the years,” athletic director Anthony Cracco said.

Figueira, who is also being inducted into the Pat-Med Hall of Fame this year, excelled in track at Pat-Med and at C.W. Post College, which is now LIU-Post. Other honorees included on the plaque include New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman, Class of 2009, and boxer Derric Rossy, Class of 2004.

At Pat-Med, Figueira set a school record in the 100-yard dash and was part of the 800-meter and one-mile medley relay teams. He finished third in the U.S. in the 180-yard low hurdles at the Golden West Invitational, a national track and field competition for high school athletes.

Figueira was also part of Pat-Med’s 1967 varsity football team, which was co-league champions. At C.W. Post, Figueira set numerous track records.

He was “an incredible athlete,” Cracco said.

The plaque is scheduled to be presented at the high school on Jan. 28. The plaque will be displayed in one of the school’s athletic showcases, Cracco said.
