Horticulture fans will want to circle Saturday, July 8 on their calendars because that’s the date for this year’s Patchogue Garden Club tour.
This year’s event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine. It will showcase six gardens: the Patchogue Garden Club garden on South Ocean Avenue and Terry Street; the Patchogue community cooperative vegetable garden behind the Parks and Recreation Department building on Bay Avenue; and four gardens that are privately owned.
This is the tour’s 21st edition. It’s become an eagerly awaited event in which backyard gardeners get to show off their work and tour-goers can find ideas and inspiration for their own outdoor spaces, said Paula Murphy, a Patchogue Garden Club member and chairperson of the garden tour committee.
The tour is self-guided, so people can visit the gardens at their own pace and in whatever order they like.
“If somebody gives themselves three hours, they can really enjoy the tour,” Murphy said. “All our gardens are in the Patchogue zip code.”
In addition to the tour, the garden club will also raffle off plants donated by Fantastic Gardens of Long Island.
