Pat-Med Hall of Fame welcomes new members

The Patchogue-Medford High School Hall of Fame welcomed its eighth class of inductees—nine individuals and the 1925 Patchogue High School boys varsity basketball team—at a dinner and ceremony at the high school on Friday, May 2.

Those inducted into the Hall were:

James Cassel (Patchogue High School Class of 1955). Cassel was an All-American high school football player and co-captain of the 1954 team. He was CEO and President of Cassel Trucks, a distributor of truck parts.

Michael Cirigliano (Patchogue-Medford High School Class of 2000). Cirigliano owns the Cirigliano Agency, an insurance agency and financial services firm in Patchogue, and is board president of GiGi’s Playhouse Long Island, which serves children and adults with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.

Joseph DeStefano (Patchogue-Medford High School Class of 1978). DeStefano is a New York State Assemblyman, who was first elected in 2018. He is a longtime first responder with the Medford Fire Department and Medford Volunteer Ambulance.

Cheryl Felice (Patchogue-Medford High School Class of 1975). Felice is a member of the South Country Board of Education in Bellport, where she has served as board president four times. She served as president of the Suffolk County Association of Municipal Employees.

Robert Figueira (Patchogue High School Class of 1968). Figueira, who died in 2011, was an All-American track athlete at Pat-Med, where he set the school record in the 100-yard dash and ran track at C.W. Post College (now part of Long Island University.) Figueira was part of the 1967 varsity football team at Pat-Med, which shared a league championship.

Paul Hauser (Patchogue-Medford educator), Hauser worked in the Patchogue-Medford School District for more than 30 years until he retired in 1989. He started as a music teacher at South Ocean Avenue Junior High School, worked as an assistant principal at Oregon Avenue Junior High School and was later a district administrator.

John Hawley (Patchogue-Medford High School Class of 1982). Hawley is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL and now runs his own consulting firm.

Dr. Wallace Marshall (Patchogue-Medford High School Class of 1986). Marshall is a full professor in biochemistry and biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco, from which he earned a doctoral degree in biochemistry. While at Pat-Med, he won first place in the Long Island Science Congress competition.

Robert Waldbauer (Patchogue High School Class of 1940). Waldbauer, who died in 2005, was a combat pilot during World War II. He was mayor of Patchogue for 16 years and served on the boards of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the New York State Power Authority. He was also Congressional Field Representative to then-Congressman Rep. Otis Pike.

1925 Patchogue High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team. The team went 16-3-1 and made it to the New York State championship game.
