Parking change on Manatuck and Brooklyn boulevards

Brightwaters board of trustees meeting rundown

It was a much shorter meeting than usual when the Brightwaters Board of Trustees met on Monday, July 11. Mayor John Valdini was away on business, so deputy mayor Thomas Zepf ran the meeting.

The board held a public hearing and adopted Local Law 6-2022, Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages at Walker Beach, for the celebration of the Bay Shore Engine Company No. 1-sponsored 5K run/walk and fun run fundraiser that was held on Saturday, July 16. The consumption of alcoholic beverages at Walker Beach was approved from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The board held a public hearing and adopted Local Law 7-2022 to add no parking on Manatuck Boulevard and Brooklyn Boulevard south of Hiawatha Drive.

“I think we need to do this,” noted trustee Michael Dopsovic. “With the businesses there, their employees are just hogging up those streets and residents who have every right to be there.”

Zepf said he was approached by a resident about the situation after employees of nearby businesses were parking on residents’ lawns, blocking their driveways or leaving a tremendous amount of trash.

The board voted and approved to pay Nassau Suffolk Painting $1,500 for power washing the two gazebos at the top of the canal. The board voted and approved to hire Rosemar Contracting Inc. to pave Plymouth Avenue from Union Boulevard to Lakeview Avenue in the amount of $164,321.

The board voted and approved to hire Bubba’s Backyard BBQ catering for food, chefs, waitresses, and cocktails for the Cocktails on the Canal fundraiser on Friday, July 15, at a maximum not to exceed $7,050.

The board voted and approved a budget modification for 2022-2023. The modified income appropriated fund balance will go from $156,871.33 to $321,192.33. The modified expense transfer to capital from $336,162 to $477,483. The budget modification was approved in the prior fiscal year 2021-2022 to apply FEMA funds toward paving Plymouth Avenue. It was never paved and the board approved the modification for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

Trustee Mary Del Vecchio noted that on Tuesday nights, groups have been meeting to play volleyball at Walker Beach and a food truck is available for food.
