No mics at board meetings

Posted

Neither the Aug. 10 Town of Islip Board Meeting or the Aug. 12 Change of Zone meeting provided microphones for community speakers.
In addition, seating was limited in the meeting space to allow for 6-foot distancing, leaving many attendees in the landing of the grand staircase to listen via live-stream on the town’s YouTube Channel.
In a previous article by The Islip Bulletin, many community members were upset that they were not able to hear others speak on the live-stream.
One speaker, present at the Aug. 10 meeting, said that she was allowed into the meeting room in queue to speak and even at that point, could not hear the community member at the podium.
A spokesperson for the town said that a microphone was not provided to speakers in conjunction with safety measures for COVID-19 and the repeated exposure to different speakers.
