Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives and the Town Of Islip Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of a fire at the Peter Pan Diner, located at 999 Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore, that was reported at 1:39 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2.
Luckily, the diner was closed at the time, and no one was in the building.
Upon arrival, Chief-31 found heavy fire and smoke conditions coming from the rear of the building, and immediately requested a second-alarm response assignment.
First arriving units were directed toward the rear of the building to the kitchen, where the fire likely started, and extinguished it.
Mutual aid was provided by Islip, West Islip, Brentwood, East Islip, Islip Terrace, West Sayville and Deer Park Fire Departments. With the help of multiple departments, the fire was under control within approximately two hours.
The Suffolk County Police Department reports that there were no injuries, while the Bay Shore Fire Department reported that one firefighter was injured at the scene and transported to a local hospital for a minor hand injury.
The diner, located off of Howells Road, has been serving the greater Bay Shore and Brightwaters community since the 1950s. The front entrance of the community staple has been boarded up after the fire, and the business is temporarily closed due to the damages.
