Man killed in boat crash

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a boat crash that killed a man on West Fire Island in the Great South Bay today.
Christopher Cannella called 911 at approximately 7:35 a.m. to report he and another man were aboard a
30-foot Wellcraft center console boat when the boat ran aground, struck a house and overturned on West Fire Island.
Cannella, 47, of West Babylon, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for
treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The second man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
