Suffolk County Police arrested a Brentwood man yesterday who used the personal information of three senior citizens to take out loans in their names since 2019.

Police said an investigation by Financial Crimes Unit detectives revealed Darrel Sharpeson went to Apple store locations in multiple states and used personal information from three residents of Atria Bay Shore, an assisted living community for seniors located at 53 Ocean Ave., to complete loan applications and purchase Apple iPhones in their names. The first case was reported to Suffolk County Police in October, 2019.

It is still under investigation how Sharpeson obtained the personal information of the victims.

Sharpeson, 37, of 127 Westwood Drive, was charged with three counts of Identity Theft 1st Degree and six counts of Identity Theft 2nd Degree. He is being held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 20.

The investigation is continuing. Police asked anyone who believes they may be a victim of Sharpeson to contact the Financial Crimes Unit at 631-852-6120 or the non-emergency police phone number, 631-852-2677.
