Main Street Apothecary among new businesses coming

Rooftop upgrade for Rhum, game room for Arooga’s

Patchogue’s thriving downtown is about to get several new businesses. Two existing businesses are also planning changes.

Main Street Apothecary plans to open at 20 E. Main Street, offering what Kelly Felice, one of the owners, calls, “a homestead market, mocktail bar and grab-and-go lunch spot,” serving paninis, soups, salads with a focus on clean, healthy ingredients from local producers.

The market will offer health and beauty items with a focus on “clean and natural products,” Felice said.

Alcohol-free mocktails will also be part of the menu, said Felice, who said she and her business partners hope to open by the end of June.

Felice said they want to create the same “very welcoming” atmosphere as your neighborhood bar, but in an alcohol-free environment.

“You’re meant to walk in and feel good,” she said. “We’re all trying to eat a little healthier and live a little longer.”

Meanwhile, Halal Munchies is planning to open a 12-seat takeout restaurant at 57 S. Ocean Avenue, in the space formerly occupied by a bagel shop, and Patchogue BOTGI plans to open an ice cream parlor with 10 tables at 12 S. Ocean Avenue.

Both Halal Munchies and Patchogue BOTGI went before the Village of Patchogue Planning Board on April 22, which approved their applications. Both are going into spaces that are already zoned for restaurants.

Halal Munchies will stay open until 3 a.m., but won’t serve alcohol, its owners told the planning board.

The ice cream parlor, which already has several locations in Queens, offers ice cream topped with cheese, which in Spanish is called helado con queso. The dessert dish is popular in Ecuador, representatives of the business told the planning board.

The new businesses coming to downtown follow the recent opening of The Tea & Spice Exchange at 90 W. Main Street. It is the store’s second location. Owners Bill and Dorine McGloine’s other location is in Port Jefferson.

In addition to the new businesses, two existing restaurants plan to make some changes.

Arooga’s Grille House & Sports Bar at 1 W. Main Street plans to convert part of the restaurant into a game room with electronic games and a photo booth, and Rhum Patchogue at 13 E. Main Street plans to add a permanent roof structure over its third floor to replace the pergola that is there now, officials from each restaurant told the Village of Patchogue Planning Board. The planning board approved the changes at its meeting on April 22.
