Local sisters provide hats and medical assistance to Ukraine

Marie J. Schwarz (right), a psychiatric nurse practitioner who lives in Islip and maintains a private practice in Babylon Village, departed for Poland on March 25 to join other volunteers who are working for Medicover, a health care agency that provides hospital, clinical, and other medical services in Poland, India and Romania. Schwarz departed to the Polish-Ukraine border, where her group is providing medical and psychiatric assistance to Ukrainian refugees who have been displaced from their homes. Schwarz’s sister, Christina Berger (left), of West Islip, hand-crocheted 25 wool hats, which are being distributed by her sister to the needy. Schwarz is expected to complete her volunteer service in two weeks, after which she will return to her home and practice.
