With fall sports put on hold until this winter, local athletes had another reason to look forward to spring when team sports would be in full action.

The Islip Bulletin asked community members to send in pictures of their kids enjoying the field again after a year of pandemic woes.

Cameron Walls, 9, Islip, hockey and soccer: “Hockey is my favorite because I love to watch the Rangers on TV.”

Abigail, 12, Islip, cross country track. According to mom, “a member of the middle school cross country team, Abigail wanted to try a new sport this year because she was tired of being home and she loves it! She loves being on a team, but is always trying to beat her own times while running.”

Jameson Scully, 5, West Islip, Tee-ball: “I love being outside, playing with my friends and rooting for the New York Yankees.”

Eve, sixth grade, East Islip, dance: “I love the challenge of new routines every year. And I love how supportive my teammates are. I have made lifelong friends through dance.”

DJ Dzvonik, 6, East Islip, Timber Point Elementary, plays soccer and lacrosse. According to mom, “He absolutely loves both sports and just naturally took to them both, which was a surprise because his father and I did not play either sport. He enjoys playing with his teammates and running as fast as he can.”

Alana, seventh grade, Islip Middle School (far left). Alana has been cheering since kindergarten. “I love the sport and having fun with my friends while supporting and cheering on the Islip Bucs football team.”

Giancarlo, age 5, kindergarten, from Islip. According to mom, “He loves playing baseball with his daddy and hitting the ball far. Although he was most excited when he received his Gatorade sports bottle from the league.”

Angelo Ammirati, age 5, Team 15, East Islip Slammers. “ scoring a goal. But, also, playing with my friends.”

Johnny Amabile, 11, fifth grade, East Islip Youth Lacrosse: “I love being outside and playing lacrosse and after missing last season. I’m so happy to be back on the field.”
