How to submit comments in writing

Comments in writing can be submitted one of two ways. The first is to send an envelope by mail or delivery service addressed to Program Manager, Office of Renewable Energy, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, 456000 Woodland Road, Sterling, Virginia 20166. The envelope must also be labeled “Sunrise Wind COP EIS.” The second way to send in a written comment is through the regulations.gov web portal. Navigate to http://www.regulations.gov and search for Docket No. BOEM-2021-0052. Click on the “Comment Now!” button to the right of the document link. Enter your information and comment, then click “Submit.” All comments must be sent by Oct. 4.

On Sept. 16, the Bureau of Ocean Management (BOEM), part of the Department of the Interior, held its first of three virtual meetings on the Sunrise Wind Scoping Project.

BOEM is taking public comment on a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Sunrise Wind Project. Individuals were invited to learn more about the proposed project, ask questions or voice their concerns.

In a statement, BOEM said they were “seeking information to determine the ‘scope’ of important resources and issues, potential impacts to the environment, reasonable alternatives, and mitigation measures to be analyzed by the EIS.”

The proposed Sunrise Wind Farm would be located 31 miles east of Montauk, 19 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., and 17 miles from Block Island, R.I., and composed of 122 wind turbines.

Two other virtual meetings on the issue took place Sept. 20 and 22. Individuals are still able to provide input on the issue until Oct. 4. More information on the project can be found at https://www.boem.gov/renewable-energy/state-activities/sunrise-wind-activities.
