Winning entries for our 4th of July photo submission contest
The Islip Bulletin held a photo submission contest for the Fourth of July, “Families for Flags,” where our readers sent in pictures of their loved ones with Old Glory.
The winners were asked what being American meant to their family.
Our front-page selection is Logan, 10 months old, whose family said, “Being an American means growing up with freedom, looking up to the heroes that serve our country and having pride in what our country can accomplish!”

Third-place winner is Otto, 1, of East Islip, who thinks that “being American means to be blessed for the freedom we have. We are proud of our country and all of the people who fought for it.”
Second-place winners are Maddie, 6, and Stan, 2, of East Islip, whose parents think being an American “means the land of opportunity and acceptance. One of these pups was a rescue from Turkey and is loving his new American life! Accepting one another for our differences and celebrating what we have is what America means to us!”
