Several industries require their employees to work, regardless of being in the midst of a health pandemic. Hospitals need medical personnel working around the clock to care for the sick and injured. Supermarkets must keep their doors open so that food is accessible to the communities. First responders are on the front lines of this pandemic, too.
There are plenty more aspects of the essential worker, and the East Islip Chamber of Commerce is expressing its gratitude for each and every person still going to work, as the bare-bones necessities to keep society afloat.
“The thanks goes to everybody who is helping us, whether it is the people working in the supermarket, the people keeping us alive, the neighbors who are helping their other neighbors who cannot make it to a store,” said Gary Teich, chamber president.
The chamber created a sign in front of Lee’s Auto Body and Glass on Main Street for the essential workers reading, “Thanks to everyone taking care of us all.” The three letters, U, S, and A, are spelled out consecutively within the last two words and feature a red, white and blue color scheme. Teich said it was meant to have a double meaning, of sorts.
Teich also pointed out that he and the chamber have received several compliments regarding the banner they put up.
“People love the sign,” he said. “They think all the businesses should have them.”
