Countywide website to support small businesses

On Sept. 9, the Suffolk County Legislature voted unanimously in their General Meeting to pass Resolution 1551-2021, which directs the Department of Economic Development and Planning and the Department of Information Technology to develop a website with resources for small businesses. The website will include information on grant and loan opportunities, potential for funding sources, business administration info, small-business-related rules and regulations, relevant department contacts and COVID-19-related guidance information. The website and resource guide will be designed and operational within 180 days of Sept. 9. A printable guide of the information will also be created.

“After attending a Long Island Regional Planning Council meeting, I was made aware of the need for this website,” said Legis. Sarah Anker, who sponsored the legislation. “COVID has created incredible challenges for small businesses, and while large corporations have received substantial government support, our small businesses have not been given as many opportunities. I am looking forward to working with our local small business owners and chamber of commerce organizations to provide guidance in the creation of this website, including the web address and the website content.”
