The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce recently held ribbon-cutting ceremonies for multiple businesses over the past month, from an updated bar with a bayside view to a taste of Italy on Main Street.
The businesses the chamber of commerce held ribbon-cutting ceremonies for this past month were Dolce Gelato, Onyx Hair Salon, SkinCare by Wendy, BOHO Pilates, and The Lookout.
“It is really great seeing Sayville and West Sayville businesses keep our Downtown Business District thriving on Main and South Main Streets as well as in West Sayville!” said Eileen Tyznar, president emeritus of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce. “The celebrations at all the ribbon cuttings provide a great way for the community to meet the new business owners on a more intimate level and help establish roots in our community. We hope to see this trend of new businesses continue on every month!”
Dolce Gelato
Owner Donna Herting wasn’t sure what business to create when she looked at taking over the storefront next door to her shop, TiggyWinks Boutique, on Main Street in Sayville. After speaking with residents about introducing something new to Sayville, Herting decided that a gelato shop was just right.
“I just wanted to put something fun, something very family-oriented,” Herting said.
Dolce Gelato, which soft-launched last fall before opening full-time a few weeks ago, provides freshly made gelato from Gemelli Gelato of Hampton Bays, with flavors always rotating, so there’s always something new to try, like peach almond crumble, or coconut blueberry, which proved popular.
Dolce Gelato is open Tuesdays through Sundays from noon to 9 p.m., and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Onyx Hair Salon
At Onyx, “luxury isn’t an option—it’s the standard,” the company says on its website. Owner Domenico DiMartino named the hair salon in honor of his late father. The strength and energy DiMartino wanted to carry is reflected in the onyx stone, “known for its grounding and protective qualities,” DiMartino said on the Onyx website.
“I recently moved to Sayville and instantly felt connected to the energy of this town,” DiMartino said. “It’s warm, vibrant, and full of charm—exactly the kind of place I envisioned building something special. That’s what Onyx is to me: a space that’s not just about hair, but about experience, connection, and elevated care.”
Onyx Hair Salon offers a range of services, including hair cutting and styling, hair color, extensions, and treatments such as Brazilian blowouts and conditioning masks.
Onyx Hair Salon is open Tuesdays through Sundays.
SkinCare by Wendy
Licensed esthetician Wendy Taylor is the owner of SkinCare by Wendy on Main Street in Sayville, with a focus on individual treatments. The personalized approach, as SkinCare by Wendy puts it, strives to provide the best skincare within a client’s budget, according to the company’s website.
Taylor said on her website that with over 25 years of experience in the field, helping people find solutions to their skincare needs isn’t just her job, but her passion.
SkinCare by Wendy offers a variety of facial treatments and injectable services, including Botox, dermal fillers and lip fillers.
SkinCare by Wendy is open from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and noon to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Boho Core Pilates
Located a few doors down from her other business, SkinCare by Wendy, Wendy Taylor, also owns Boho Core Pilates on Main Street in Sayville.
The Pilates studio first started as an extension of her skincare business, to provide clients with a more holistic service, and became a permanent studio Taylor runs down the street.
“At its core, this studio is about inclusivity and accessibility,” Taylor said on her website. “It’s designed for everyone and every body type, blending the exclusivity of a boutique wellness experience with affordability and community spirit.”
Boho Core Pilates offers different classes, from “reformer flow,” which focuses on mobility, balance and mindful awareness, to “reformer sculpt,” which emphasizes muscular endurance and core stability.
The Lookout
Partners Nikki Panzarino, David Prunier, Phil Capobianco and Greg Wright found each other at the right place at the right time when the former Scotty’s Pub in West Sayville was soon to be no more.
Last fall, the group brought a new life into the bar, including a kitchen where cooks make appetizers like quesadillas, and a fresh coat of paint across the bar. But much of the bar’s charm still remains, from the floors to the regulars, with tweaks like a new name.
“The name came from the view,” Panzarino said. “On a clear day, you can see Fire Island, and the sunsets are really nice.”
Panzarino, who previously managed restaurants like Bait and Tackle in Sayville, joined with her friend Prunier, co-owner of Tallulah’s in Bay Shore, and later chef Capobianco and bartender Wright.
Wright said the group is looking to open their new business, Gringos, a Tex-Mex restaurant, just a few blocks east in the coming weeks, with finishing touches going up on the outside, including a mural.
Happy hour is 3 to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and live music is offered every Friday, along with a DJ on Saturdays.
