Bellport snapped a four-game winning streak and was held to a season-low in points as the Clippers fell to League IV rival Deer Park, 55-42, on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

It was a big game for both teams. Visiting Bellport came into the game in first place at 5-0 in League IV. Deer Park came in tied with Smithtown West for second place at 4-1.

Deer Park jumped ahead early, scoring the game’s first nine points. The Falcons were up 20-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Bellport’s scoring woes continued in the second quarter. Deer Park held Bellport to nine first-half points and went into the locker room with a 31-9 lead.

Bellport fought back, out-scoring Deer Park 33-24 in the second half. The Clippers cut the deficit to 12 points late in the game, but couldn’t get any closer.

“They outplayed us on all ends—offensively, defensively, rebounding,” Bellport assistant coach Rich Brown said.

Jordan Battist led Bellport with 18 points. Deer Park’s Damien Scott was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points, followed by DiMaunte Gardner with 19 points.

Bellport will face Deer Park again when the Falcons travel to Bellport on Feb. 5.
