Nathaniel Chavious a 2012 Bellport High School alumnus has signed a contract with the BC Lions of the British Columbia Canadian Football league.
Nate was the leading rusher for Bellport Football in 2010-11 and 2011-2012. He was inducted into the Bellport Football Hall of Fame in 2021. He graduated and continued his education and football career at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. There he achieved all conference for two of the four years he played.
After Sacred Heart, Nate went to Cedar Rapids River Kings of the Indoor Football League (IFL) as a kick returner and running back in 2018. He was the number one running back on the team with an average 5.5 yards per carry and 13 touchdowns. Kickoff return, Nate gained 699 yards on 34 attempts and 20 receptions for 162 yards for a total of 3,715 all-purpose yards. Then the pandemic hit.
After the pandemic, Nate signed a contract with the Sioux Falls Storm in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2021. He was the kickoff return specialists and starting running back. He was awarded the IFL special team’s player of the year. Nate amassed 1,239 yards on 58 attempts and ran 3 for touchdowns. He was the first player in the IFL to be honored for two different positions. He had 19 touchdowns as a running back. He continued to play for the Storm in 2022.
