On Dec. 5, the annual Chanukah on Main was held at the Head of the Canal in Brightwaters. Rabbi Shimon Stillerman said the event was the most well-attended with music, crafts, food and hot cocoa for all. Dignitaries such as Town of Islip supervisor Angie Carpenter, Legis. Steve Flotteron, NYS Sen. Phil Boyle and Village of Brightwaters mayor John Valdini attended. Holocaust survivor Edith Gross lit the shamash and then passed the torch to boxer Celtus Sedlin, also known as the “Hebrew Hammer.” Members from the Bay Shore Fire Department dropped gelt from the top of the ladder for kids to catch and collect.
