Last Saturday evening, families and friends donned their favorite costumes and flocked to Main Street in Bay Shore for the first annual Haunted Halloween Festival. The community event – dubbed “A Main Street Spook-taucular” – was sponsored by the Bay Shore Beautification Society and the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bay Shore, along with support from the Bay Shore High School student groups and the Great South Bay YMCA/Boulton Center.

Students from Dowling College in Oakdale spent several hours’ last week gathering water samples and sifting through sediment for the program “A Day in the Life of the Connetquot River.” Their work will help provide information to track any changes to the ecosystem there and hopefully lead to identifying the causes for those changes.

A minor miracle

I attended the KANSAS’ concert at the Patchogue Theater on Saturday night with friends. While we were waiting for the show to begin the band's manager came out on stage and asked the audience to photograph a poster that was displayed on the stage and then text it to an address he gave us. He said someone in the audience would win a guitar autographed by the whole band and also get a chance to meet and take photos with them. Everyone took out their cellphone cameras and we all took our shots.
