Painting the Great South Bay

The South Bay Art Association is inviting artists to paint en plein air for the second annual event they are calling Paint the Great South Bay. About 20 artists will paint the South Shore from Smith Point County Park to Islip from Aug. 20-23. Paintings created during the event will then be featured on Sunday at the Wet Paint sale at Paper Cup Studios in Bellport. Proceeds from the event will fund future SBAA funds as well as scholarships.

Local producer John Norris (Tre Trax) has gone from hearing his beats play back to him in his basement to producing a song with nearly 750,000 plays on audio sharing site, SoundCloud. The track, “Juice” by Lil Donald, was released eight months ago, and it is only one of Norris’ numerous productions.

Family of five rescued on Great South Bay

Four good Samaritans from West Islip, along with police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department Marine Bureau, rescued a family of five after the boat the victims were traveling in sank in the Great South Bay on Sunday afternoon.

Heavy winds at Bay Shore regatta

The winds kicked up nicely at last weekend’s Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association Invitational Regatta hosted by the Bay Shore Yacht Club. But in good windy conditions, problems can occur such as the cancelation of the Saturday race after a Narrasketuck boat, one of nine that showed up to participate that day, flipped over.
