The entire Bay Shore community is invited to assist improving as many homes in the community as they can between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Oct. 18.

Led by the state’s Mortgage Agency and the Long Island Housing Partnership, Spruce Up Bay Shore is expecting around 70 volunteers to help with outdoor painting (siding, windows, shutters), power washing and debris removal, outside repairs (steps, gutters, fences), and spruce up of yards and neighborhood parks.

SONYMA runs spruce-up events each year across the state, selecting specific communities. Last year, Central Islip homes were spruced up, and Brentwood in 2017. A representative from SONYMA expressed that the agency has developed a focus on communities in central Long Island.

Volunteers are invited to meet at 8 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bay Shore on 2nd Avenue. Coffee and pastries will be offered before a short introduction. The teams will be sprucing shortly afterwards.
