RONKONKOMA – The TSA checkpoint at Long Island MacArthur Airport was temporarily shut down, Wednesday morning, after security agents discovered an item they thought looked suspicious in a carry on luggage.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m., agents found a belt buckle, which resembles an explosive device. An investigation, which took about 30 minutes and shut down the entire airport, determined the item was safe.

“We at the Town of Islip want the public to be comfortable knowing that we operate with an abundance of caution guarding the safety of our ISP passengers,” Islip Town supervisor Angie Carpenter wrote in a statement.

Airport operations resumed around 5:50 a.m., according to reports. The incident ended up delaying three flights.
