Dowling is done
OAKDALE—After 48 years of providing higher education, Dowling College in Oakdale is closing its doors this Friday. The scenic liberal arts college is located on the banks of the Connetquot River and occupies several buildings that were once part of the Vanderbilt estate. However, in recent years, the college had been struggling financially and with lower enrollment. Despite last-ditch efforts to remain open, the decision to close was made on Tuesday.
It’s been reported that Dowling staff are now working with other Long Island colleges to place their matriculating students so they can complete their degrees elsewhere.
