Local Memorial Day parade lineups

The annual Memorial Day ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. at the Bay Shore Train Station on Union Boulevard on Monday, May 30. There will be a presentation with guest speakers and Taps, performed by a Bay Shore High School student. The Hibernian Festival Singers will also perform. A wreath will be laid at a memorial there.

The parade down Main Street begins at Newins Ford and St. Patrick Schoolyard, and will kick off at 10 a.m. The parade will travel east and then north on Brentwood Road, ending with a wreath-laying ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery.

The VFW Post 18 in East Islip and Rusy-Bohm American Legion Post 411 in Islip alternate sponsoring the parade from year to year. This year, the latter organization will host the event.

The parade will kick off on the corner of Saxon Avenue and Main Street and then travel east to Memorial Park, where there will be a presentation with speeches, Taps and a wreath-laying ceremony.

The American Legion Post 1738 is sponsoring the 62nd annual Memorial Day parade. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Roderick Road and Udall Road and will proceed south on Higbie Lane to the Paul J. Bellew Elementary School, where a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the memorial there.

After the services, the legion will be serving hot dogs back at the post, which is located at 340 Union Boulevard.
