An illuminating event
ISLIP—On Saturday, Dec. 5, a plethora of people lined up along Montauk Highway in Islip to witness the annual holiday parade, hosted by the Islip Chamber of Commerce. It was the first time the parade was held in the evening. The festive event featured dozens of holiday-themed marching groups, including Boy and Girl Scouts, local fire departments, churches, dance studios, middle and high school groups and other various community clubs and organizations, and many of them featured illuminations.
Onlookers cheered and waved as marchers made their way east from 401 Town Hall West to Islip Town Hall, culminating with a special guest, Santa Claus, who was kind enough to take time from his busy schedule to make an appearance. It all amounted to a merry event, where families and friends joined together to kick-start the holiday season in splendid fashion, perfectly capturing the hometown charm and togetherness of the community.
The next holiday-themed event sponsored by the Islip Chamber will be “Light the Night,” which will take place this Sunday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. Rain dates are Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20. Luminary kits may be purchased for $10 at various community businesses or upcoming Islip Chamber events. For more information, call 581-2720 or visit www.islipchamberofcommerce.org.
