Students awarded at Islip's Night of Champions

Awards of various academic excellences awarded to 92 Islip HS students

The Night of Champions at Islip Middle School on Tuesday night featured the distribution of various awards to students within the Islip School District, including academic excellence as well as music and athletics.

“Nights like this are always one of the crown jewels as an administrator and an educator that we have because we are able to come here and celebrate the hard work and commitment in the community that students have,” said high school principal Jon LaRochester.

For academics, assistant principal Lisa Ward invited each of 92 Islip High School students who earned recognition in Advanced Placement courses. Ward, who is also the school’s AP coordinator, described the various levels of achievement that students at Islip High School have achieved this year.

Two National AP Scholar Awards were received, which requires an average score of 4 across the AP exams taken, with eight or more AP exam grades of 4 or higher. Winners of the AP Scholar with Distinction (20), AP Scholar with Honor (6), AP Scholar (33) were among the high school’s student body as well. AP Capstone certificates and diplomas were also awarded.

The Night of Champions, which began at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, was scheduled as part of the district’s board of education meeting.
